Off-Grid
Off-Grid Solar PV System is the one without the electricity power grid connection. It mostly comes with a power storage, i.e. a battery bank.
With different controllers or inverters, the system has different functionalities.
OFF-Grid‘s Charge Controllers
There are different type of the charge controllers:
PWM Controller:
- Pros: Low cost.
- Cons: Not good for a multiple-panels PV system.
MPPT Controller:
- Pros: PV output optimized, the less cost.
- Cons: More cost than PWM. Limitation with the input current/PV system size based on the models.

Off-Grid with inverter
There are different type of the inverters:
Square Wave or Modified Sine Wave Inverter:
- Pros: Low cost.
- Cons: Not efficient. Could be noisy.
Pure Sine Wave Inverter:
- Pros: Most efficient. Not necessarily the highest cost. Less audible noise.
- Cons: The front cost looks more than other types.
Off-Grid with Inverter / Charger
The Inverter/Charger, beside the DC to AC inversion, can also charge the battery through AC power.
