Grid-Tie

Grid-Tie Solar PV System is the one that is connected to the electrical power grid.  It feeds excess capacity back to the local mains electrical grid, and draws from the grid when PV power is insufficient.

Usually, Grid-Tie system uses microinverters and string inverters.

Microinverter

e.g. APsystems, Hoymiles, Enphase, etc.

Pros: Easy to install, module level MPPT, RSD (rapid shut down) is not required.

Cons: Cost more for PV systems bigger than 15-20KW.

String inverter

e.g. Fronius, SMA, Huawei, Sungrow, Growatt, etc.

Pros: The bigger system, the less cost.

Cons: String level MPPT, RSD may be required.
